Arts & Culture

Watertown has a robust arts community and is home to the galleries of world-renowned Americana artist Terry Redlin and award-winning wildlife artist Josh Spies. You can see 150 original Redlin oil paintings at the Terry Redlin Art Center, which also features a 30-acre conservation park with picnic areas, duck ponds and walking trails. The Josh Spies Gallery is also temporarily located at the Terry Redlin Center. Josh is a talented wildlife artist who was awarded the Federal Duck stamp in 2009.

Watertown residents enjoy annual events, like the annual Uptown Arts Festival, that celebrate local, regional and national artists. Residents and visitors can also attend performances at the community playhouse or take in outdoor performances of the Watertown Municipal Band.

For the history buff in you, the Codington County Heritage Museum is home to an extensive collection of artifacts that tell the history of Watertown and the surrounding area. Fort Sisseton State Park, the Children’s Museum of South Dakota and several state museums are also within an hour’s drive of Watertown.
